As someone who has had TB in a developed country, it was only AFTER I survived TB did they realise I had TB and it was years later, through a random blood test. Most people would say "oh but that's a really old victorian disease, how did you get it?" Bro, you can get it from unpasteurised milk, farm animals, unclean fish tanks, and from other people. And btw you can get it now and not know you have it until years later. And then it lives in you for the rest of your life. I was put on anti TB medication for 4 mouths, and it's only 90% gone. Which is very good but I will always have 10%.
Developed countries have a prejudice that the disease is so old that it doesn't exist anymore, like smallpox. And then, in my opinion, developing countries who have it aren't taken as seriously when they cry out for the cure.
Thank you for everything you do. The words you write the stories you tell, and the voice you have on the internet to fight back against censorship… and tuberculosis.
My uncle passed away from a rare form of TB that he picked up while in the miliary in the 80's. It was dormant for many years and then suddenly it hit him and he only made it a little over two years after his diagnosis. It was terrible to watch, and it tore the family apart. This was less than five years ago. It was very real for my family, even in a place and time where you would think it would be easy to cure, but it wasn't. Not at all.
I know you have no control over the complex workings of international book publishing, but I really hope the preorder will be available in Europe soon!
Do you hold the Guiness World Record for most signatures signed?! (I can't wait to read the book and I think it's awesome that you're signing 100,000 copies! 🫶🥲

Sipping my tuberculosis tea while watching this
I’m curious if there’s been any American politicians that have tried to push getting vaccines to those countries that need it.

so, did you resist using “T-B or not T-B, that is the congestion” at any point in the book?
Can you write some speculative science fiction like Ursula K Le Guin next?

Here I thought my capstone project on TB was impressive. Haha. You done wrote a whole book. 😂
John, you need to stop signing things. We get at most 2 wrists in this life, and half of them do fuckall. Save the one good one you have.
John will not stand down on this and I absolutely love it!
Ay dios, I do not envy having to sign 100,000 copies of your new book 😭
I’m so proud of you, John. I mean that sincerely.
